The success story of helsa began more than 65 years ago on "Grandma’s sewing machine". Nowadays, the company is world market leader with a strongly diversified range of products. It employs a worldwide staff of 900 at 8 locations, ensuring that helsa products remain indispensable in the future too.

1947

The success story begins at the sewing machine of Helmut Sandler's grandmother.

The name Helmut Sandler stands for a new idea – industrially produced shoulder pads.

1952

Establishment of the current main location of Gefrees

1957

Growth from three founding mothers in 1947 to the current 90 employees

1965

The first factories abroad open their doors in Austria, Yugoslavia, France and South Africa

1970

Start of the production of bonded facing silks

1976

The idea to turn towards technical functional products flourishes following the chance discovery of a small pattern of cloth.

1982

Start of production for rubberized textiles and moulded diaphragms

1985

Helmut Sandler hands over the company to the next family generation. His daughter Monika Sandler has been at the helm ever since.

1986

New innovations such as the helsapor product bring a new dimension of attention to the company – new production plants are set up in Hungary, Poland and China.
